Hazy trend more than a phase: Monteith’s launches two new brews

Iconic New Zealand craft brand Monteith’s today introduces two delicious new hazy brews, the West Coastin’ Hazy IPA and the Gold Dust Hazy Pale Ale. This represents Monteith’s first foray into the can format with both new brews, as well as the popular Phoenix IPA, all available in convenient 6 pack 330ml cans.

Gold Dust is a refreshing, cloudy Pale Ale, juiced up with a medley of fruity hops on a beautiful base of premium grains. West Coastin’ is a tropically-charged unfiltered Hazy IPA brewed with a delicious mix of Mosaic, Galaxy and Wai-iti hops.

Characterised by a tropical fruitiness and low bitterness, the hazy style first came to popularity on the US East Coast, but has seen increasing popularity in New Zealand over the last few years proving to be more than a phase. Sam Forrest, Senior Marketing Manager of Domestic Brands at DB Breweries, explains that the ‘haze craze’ has kept momentum over the last few years, with the style now firmly cemented as a favourite Kiwi craft variety.

“The latest data shows continued strong growth with five out of the top ten craft products currently hazy styles, and a third of all craft beer bought by New Zealanders being hazy*. Delivering all the wonderful juiciness you would expect from East Coast-style beers, the two new brews both pack a deliciously fruity hop hit, all from an accessible and reliable everyday craft brand. These brews are punching above their weight when it comes to hop-forward haze,” says Forrest.

The names and packaging of West Coastin’ Hazy IPA and Gold Dust Hazy Pale Ale give nods to the West Coast origins of the Monteith’s brewery, and the gorgeous golden colour of the beer sipped at sunset.

West Coastin’ Hazy IPA, Gold Dust Hazy Pale Ale and Phoenix IPA will all be available in stores nationwide from May 2022.
