Bars support new HPA alcohol moderation campaign

DB supports HPA's 'Not Beersies'

DB Breweries is supporting the new Health Promotion Agency (HPA) alcohol moderation campaign by activating the ‘Not Beersies’ brand in key bars in Auckland, Hawke’s Bay and Wellington.

The activation has seen the installation of ‘Not Beersies’ - or water - taps in selected bars, alongside normal beer taps so consumers have the option to order a ‘Not Beersie’ at the point of purchase.

DB Breweries Managing Director Andy Routley says the organisation agrees completely with the ideology of the campaign. “Consuming water when you’re having a drink is an absolute necessity in our united drive for moderation and responsible consumption. Kiwis should be drinking more water in social situations and we applaud the HPA’s campaign for highlighting, and creating conversation around this.”

The campaign, which launched last week as a follow up to the awarded ‘Say Yeah, Nah’, renames water as ‘Not Beersies’ and aims to contribute to popularising and normalising the drinking and serving of water in social situations.

The tongue-in-cheek creative puts a light-hearted spin on moderating alcohol intake with water, parodying classic beer brand advertising with lines like ‘Brewed by Clouds’ and ‘The Not Beersie for beersie drinkers’.

“We plumbed a house with beer last year so we thought why not support plumbing a beer tap with water? All licensed premises are legally obliged to offer free water and this is an attractive and entertaining way to draw awareness to that,” says Routley.

“Most license holders take their host responsibility extremely seriously and we were thrilled with the enthusiasm to be a part of this campaign. Outlets are increasingly installing water taps in their bars so this is very much in line with a wider trend to provide welcoming hospitality environments,” he adds.

‘Not Beersies’ is currently on tap at the following bars and in any faucet near you:
Sweat Shop, Auckland CBD; The Flying Moa, Mt. Wellington; Turks, Havelock North; St John’s, Wellington CBD, Cambridge Hotel, Te Aro; The Old Bailey, Lambton Quay.
